George N. DeBakey Jr. is the co-founder and Managing Director of Asset Performance Networks, and the Chairman of Asset Performance Canada. He shares responsibility for the overall strategic direction of the companies and management of long-term growth and development. With more than 25 years of professional experience in the energy, petrochemical, and construction industries, Mr. DeBakey’s work has consistently generated measurable improvements in asset and operational performance.
During AP-Networks’ inception, Mr. DeBakey focused the company on the important and strategic idea that best practices may be known and measured, but unless implemented they remain academic and theoretical. Today, AP-Networks’ products and services fulfill those founding ideas as they have become the industry standard for how asset intensive facilities generate competitive advantages. At AP-Networks, Mr. DeBakey has led an organization responsible for changing the way Fortune Global 50 Energy and Chemical Companies approach turnarounds, shutdowns, outages, and capital projects. He is often a featured speaker at industry forums, and has authored numerous articles published in various technical and management journals.
Mr. DeBakey started his career with Bechtel Corporation where he focused on the engineering and construction of mega-projects. Later in his Bechtel career, he played key roles in a start-up organization responsible for taking commercial nuclear power plants from mechanical completion to steady-state operations. In addition, Mr. DeBakey was responsible for managing nuclear refueling outages. His acclamation in the commercial nuclear industry gave him the unique opportunity to be one of a select few consultants to work on improving the Systemic Assessment of Licensee Performance (“SALP”) ratings of three nuclear power plants. This experience gave him the invaluable understanding of achieving breakthrough results through the improved performance of people, processes, and the material condition of physical assets. Mr. DeBakey holds Bachelor and Master Degrees in Engineering from the University of Memphis.
